Even the new poor issue,

The main prob is credit card loan... WP wanna help the ppl on these, it's your choice to have overdraft

elindra SG

Ya man. I mean I don't understand how come alot of people expect the government to solve their problems which is the result of their own actions. The least they can do is exercise some form of self responsibility Rolling Eyes

sbst275 SG

Thought they said "You have a choice?" Laughing

Fatum SG

I'm not a supporter of most of the opposition because they only make the noise that the people want to hear, sure, they are in touch with the ground, but they don't seem to understand that bitter pills have to be swallowed ... (that excludes the SDP ... they are lost in the clouds somewhere)

I'm not sure if getting a rabble of "opposition" into the parliament just to keep the pappies in check is a good idea ... in the end I guess ... there's a woeful lack of a viable middle ground on the political landscape ...

sbst275 SG

What PM Lee hits out was true, it's happening in Taiwan and Malaysia

Instead of looking to the future, the opp are creating prob at domestic level, but I'm not saying a few, but say 20 of them

Even @ Speakers Corner, ppl rant the GST... You have a choice, use cheaper or more expensive one

Even scrapping it really helps the high spenders eventually

elindra SG

Maybe that is why the other forumites accuse us of being 'elites'

It's the way we write and now the political party

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for the Opposition if they have clearly defined viable policies which doesn't have any hidden strings attached which may pop up after the policies are in place. Laughing and also the social consequences in the long run.

I agree with you that we do not have a viable middle ground in our political landscape here

elindra SG

Last thing I want are our politicians fighting and name-calling on national television Laughing

Scrapping it only benefits the super rich

Imagine buying a $10,000 watch without 5% GST
Instant $500 discount

sbst275 SG

The Gomez issue

I believe there's a underlying intension..

They knew clearly Aljunied the needed requirement is at least 1 certified Malay canidate... The boundary report was out way 2 mths bef election is called!

I suspect they use this to gather support esp what's going on at Speakers Corner cos they knew the PAP will rake it up... Rolling Eyes

That's why CCTVs are needed at public service office Laughing

sbst275 SG

Steve Chia said Sitoh (PAP's canidate for Potong Pasir) has big ego

Never mind, he has taken nude pic and drove which ended up banged into a SBS bus which caused service disruption

elindra SG

Laughing
I'm not an Auntie (glares at Fatum) but seriously I will not vote for a perverted guy who won't even show respect for his wife at home by messing around with the maid.

Seriously if he can't even govern his own personal life, I wonder how can he not screw up other peoples' lives

Fatum SG

I'm very disturbed about the ranters and the "idealists" in the forums here ... for sure, there are legitimate concerns, like transportation costs, spiralling health costs ... but there are plenty of kopitiam ranting as well ... as for the idealists ... Rolling Eyes ... I just hope they actually remember that all the different flavours and varieties of goverment are a means to an end ... not an end in itself ... they discover the internet, and got to know that the ST is crap ... but suck in every word from everywhere else ... or read a few books and articles, and think themselves superior ... (reminds me of my quarrels with those weed smoking, hippie type liberal arts majors at the Arts faculty smoking corner here ... )

yeah ... I'm waiting for an opposition that I can vote for with my conscience ... a group who does not just say what the masses want to hear, who present alternative policies, who's in tune with the people, who's in touch with reality .....

InnoHippo SG

income tax is progressive tax ( rich get to pay more tax ) ......

but govt lower it and introduce GST ........ Confused

sbst275 SG

GST, the more you spend the more you pay as well

Fatum SG

GST is supposedly progressive too .... Laughing

remember, basic necccesities are supposed to be excempted from sales taxes .... the poor get more disposable income for necessities, the rich pays more for luxury purchases ....

it's things like alcohol and tobacco taxes that are regressive ...

InnoHippo SG

during elections, all politicans are expected to say what the masses like to hear and bad-mouth the competitor .......

elindra SG

And you hit the nail on it's head Mr. Green

sbst275 SG

But it's gonna be difficult if some are 'exempted' on admin work

Might as well impose on everything and impose at a lower rate

elindra SG

Yeah but must bad-mouth with some intelligence with homework done and cover your backside too ma Laughing

Not if you get masses that actually think and not get emotional about things

InnoHippo SG

difficult meh ......... ezlink system so complicated also can manage what Laughing

Fatum SG

it'll be a bit long winded for me to regurgitate my textbooks here ... but it's not a good idea to impose a uniform flat rate, cos that'll be sort of a "regressive" tax then ... the poor will find it a bigger burden with a uniform flat rate than the rich ...
